The Jesse Stone movies, based on the books by Robert B. Parker, have been filmed primarily in Nova Scotia, Canada since 2005. Locations in Halifax, Dartmouth and Eastern Passage have been used to represent Paradise, Massachusetts where the stories are set. Sets were also built at Paramount Studios and locations around southern California for exterior shots of Paradise Square.
One of the most recognizable locations is Scatarie Island located off the coast of mainland Nova Scotia which was used as a backdrop to create images of distant Thunderhead Island throughout many films. Other prominent Nova Scotian landmarks used during filming include High Head Castle near Sambro Harbour and Peggys Cove Lighthouse south east from Halifax on St Margarets Bay Road. Parts of Lunenberg County were also used over several movie sequences including Blue Rocks to represent Cider House Beach in Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007).
Parts for later films were also shot outside Canada with some scenes from Jesse Stone: Lost In Paradise (2015) being filmed at Monument Valley Park Arizona and Joske’s Department Store in San Antonio Texas providing sets for Still Small Voices (2009).
